Born in 1927 France, Hubert James Taffin de Givenchy founded his namesake House in 1952. That same year, he presented a collection that would leave an indelible mark on fashion history: the “enfant terrible of Haute Couture” was born. Givenchy knew he wanted to make women beautiful from the ripe age of 17. At 25 he opened his first boutique stocked full of clothing and high end fashion jewelry. He was known for using beautiful rhinestones, polished glass, various plated metals, and faux pearls to make his pieces stand out. Even after his retirement in 1995, the fashion house continues to be a stalwart of quality and style.
